It’s been a few months! I hope you’re well. Me, I’ve been settling into my full-time gig at PCMag. I’m now PCMag’s resident Windows whisperer, and I also cover other operating systems and software: From macOS and Linux to desktop apps and web browsers.
PCMag has given me a platform to deliver thoughtful coverage and analysis, and I’m proud of it. For example:
I live-blogged Microsoft Build in San Francisco from the front row, and wrote up analysis of where Microsoft is going — and where Windows is going.
I had conversations with Microsoft representatives I can’t publicly name about the future of Windows 11 — and what Windows 12 might look like.
I dove deep into controversial topics that aren’t getting enough coverage in the press, like operating system age verification laws.
I interviewed notable individuals, like Firefox head Ajit Varma and Vivaldi co-founder Jon von Tetzschner, about the future of their respective browsers and the web as a whole.
Beyond that, I’ve taken over covering software in general for PCMag, from browser recommendations to Windows speed-up tips.
And I’m still on good terms with Paul Thurrott — we were just on Windows Weekly together a few days ago. Check it out!
My latest project is writing PCMag’s weekly Windows Guide newsletter, which is now a weekly look at the most important stories of the week and analysis of why they really matter. It’s not a firehose of news - it’s analysis that’s becoming harder to find on the web. If you want more Windows talk from me, please subscribe!
Now: This was always a personal newsletter where I talked about things behind the scenes, so let’s get into that. Media is in a rough spot, lots of publications have shut down, and many are struggling. In that environment, PCMag is investing in tech journalism. PCMag is both an awesome team of people who really care about what we’re publishing and a storied brand with a lot of authority, and I’m honored they handed me the proverbial microphone.
